Sweet, sweet Vancouver. What a place.
Over the weekend we flew up to Vancouver, B.C. for a breif vacation. We drank loads of lattes and had a number of culinary delights including Bison, Crab lard, Duck, Dim Sum. The Bison was quite tasty and the duck was sort of interesting. This was no ordinary duck, it was Beijing Duck. No, it didn’t fly over from Beijing, but it was prepared in the Beijing style. What does that mean? That means that they cut the skin off in little patches of about 3” x 3”. The inside of the skin has fat attached to it still. This piece of skin is rolled up in a little tortilla with a special sauce and green onion stalk I think. It’s actually pretty good.
Saturday we went downtown to chinatown. It’s much bigger than Portland’s, and there are a lot of Chinese people and shops there – naturally. Vancouver is actually 50% Asian! It’s kind of like going to Asia, but much closer. After a stop at the Chinese Garden, we cruised back into downtown for a little bit to become two of the masses shopping and walking the streets.
One of the best parts of Vancouver is all the glass buildings clustered around the waterfronts. They all kind of look the same but it’s really quite beautiful.
Sunday we hit the aquarium and saw sharks, seahorses, beluga whales, sea lions, and jelly fish.
